Make Tools, Not Products

MakerCon 2014

Jesse Genet

Today I had the pleasure of speaking at MakerCon 2014 in New York, the conference that Maker Media puts on before World Maker Faire in Queens. A lot of people don't know this, but we actually existed as a company for a full two years selling only finished printed products before our 2012 Kickstarter campaign to fund our DIY kits! Yep, we had a monopoly on Lumi printing and we made a living selling printed fashion and furniture goods in order to fund our research.

The decision to open the process up to the public and sell Inkodye all over the world might seem like an obvious one now, but it was actually a very difficult decision to make. Below is a short post talk interview. You can  also watch the full 20 minute talk on YouTube.
